Refractive Index Standards
Refractive index standards are liquids with a stated nD value at 20°C, used to calibrate and verify refractometers. Food, beverage, chemical, petroleum and pharmaceutical laboratories use them whenever refractive index is part of identity, purity or concentration testing.
The 58 Reagecon listings are solvent based standards with values such as 1.38779 and 1.40485 nD units at 20°C, extending across the range measured by bench and digital refractometers. For sugar work, the Brix (Stabilised) and Sucrose in Water ranges in the same section give Brix referenced values instead.
Choose values close to the refractive index of your samples, plus one further point to confirm linearity, and ensure your instrument temperature control matches the 20°C reference. Lancetech Limited can quote other nD values on request.
