Napthyl
Napthyl is the Vintage Chrom ARO Naphthyl range of HPLC columns, an aromatic bonded phase with a fused two-ring ligand. Method developers in pharmaceutical and analytical laboratories use naphthyl columns for polyaromatic compounds, isomers and structurally similar drugs.
The 54 listings use 100 Å silica with naphthyl bonding in 3 µm, 5 µm and 10 µm particle sizes, in 125 mm lengths with 4 mm or 4.6 mm internal diameters. Compared with the ARO Phenyl and Phenyl Hexyl columns in the same family, the larger naphthyl ring system strengthens pi-pi interactions and shape selectivity, which separates planar aromatics that other phases cannot distinguish.
Try a naphthyl column when phenyl selectivity is promising but not sufficient, and favour methanol mobile phases to maximise aromatic retention. Choose 3 µm for the sharpest isomer peaks. Lancetech Limited can quote any ARO Naphthyl column on request.
