Magnetic beads
Magnetic beads are magnetic particles that bind a target in solution and are then pulled aside with a magnet, replacing centrifugation and column steps. Molecular biology, diagnostics development and automated sample preparation laboratories use them for extraction and clean-up.
The eight GVS listings share a mean grain size of 500 nm and a concentration of 50 mg/mL, and differ in binding capacity, with 10.5 µg/mg and 2.5 µg/mg versions listed under separate part numbers. The higher capacity beads recover more target per milligram, while the lower capacity grade suits lower-input samples or protocols already optimised for it.
To choose, start with the amount of target you expect per sample and the bead volume your protocol specifies; binding capacity multiplied by bead mass tells you the maximum you can recover.
