C8
C8 HPLC columns sit between C4 and C18 in hydrophobicity, giving shorter run times than C18 for strongly retained compounds while keeping a familiar reversed-phase elution pattern. Pharmaceutical, clinical and environmental laboratories use octyl columns as the second phase to try after C18.
Three Vintage Chrom variants make up the 308 listings: Bond C8, Bond C8 HS and Bond C8 MU. Sample products are 125 × 4 mm, 5 µm columns with 60 Å, 100 Å or 120 Å pores, and the wider section repeats these phases across further configurations.
If a C18 method runs too long or a hydrophobic analyte tails, moving to a C8 column of the same dimensions is the simplest change. Keep the pore size consistent with your current column, and use the HS variant on 60 Å silica where maximum surface area helps retention of small polar compounds. We can quote any listing on request.
