Diol
Diol HPLC columns carry a neutral, hydroxylated bonded phase used for normal-phase, HILIC and aqueous size-exclusion separations. Biochemists, polymer chemists and pharmaceutical analysts use diol columns when they need silica-like polarity without the strong acidity of bare silica.
The 316 Vintage Chrom listings include Bond Diol and Bond Diol HS. Sample products show 125 × 4 mm columns with 3 µm and 5 µm particles and a wide pore spread from 60 Å (HS) through 100 Å and 300 Å up to 500 Å.
Choose the pore size by what you are separating: 60 Å and 100 Å for small polar molecules, 300 Å and 500 Å for proteins or polymers. The HS variant on 60 Å silica maximises surface area for retention of small analytes. If you need help deciding between diol and amino chemistry for a sugar or polar-analyte method, ask us.
