Bi-Phenyl
Bi-Phenyl HPLC columns use a biphenyl ligand bonded to silica, giving stronger aromatic retention than a single phenyl phase. Pharmaceutical, clinical and environmental analysts use them for compounds with multiple aromatic rings or conjugated systems that are hard to separate on C18.
This part of the HPLC Columns range holds 162 Vintage Chrom ARO Biphenyl listings. Columns are offered in 125 × 4 mm format with 3 µm or 5 µm particles and a choice of 100 Å, 200 Å or 300 Å pores, so the same chemistry can be applied to small molecules and to larger peptides.
Because the biphenyl ring system adds a pi-pi retention mechanism, expect elution order changes relative to an alkyl phase and re-optimise the gradient rather than copying it directly. Use the 100 Å column for routine small-molecule work and move to 300 Å for larger analytes. We are happy to quote any column in the range.
