Silica

Silica is the largest normal-phase section in the HPLC Columns range, with 308 Vintage Chrom columns built on Vintage Bond SI and Vintage Bond Silica packings. Chromatographers use these unbonded silica columns for separations driven by polarity rather than hydrophobicity.

The sample listings are 125 x 4 mm columns with 3 µm particles, offered across 60 Å, 100 Å and 300 Å pores. That pore range lets you match the packing to the analyte: the 60 Å material maximises surface area for small molecules, 100 Å is the general-purpose choice, and 300 Å is intended for larger molecules that would be excluded from narrower pores.

Normal-phase silica remains the first choice for isomer separations, lipid class analysis and the purification of synthetic intermediates in hexane or heptane based eluents. Because 3 µm particles raise back pressure, check your pump limits before moving a 10 µm SB-SI method onto this material. Lancetech Limited can quote any Silica column and advise on pore selection.
