C4
C4 HPLC columns provide a butyl reversed-phase surface with lower hydrophobicity than C18, which is why they are the usual choice for proteins, large peptides and biomolecules that need gentle retention. This is a large section of the HPLC Columns range, with 407 listings.
The Vintage Chrom Bond C4 family here spans the HS, MU and SD variants. Sample configurations are 125 × 4 mm columns with 3 µm and 5 µm particles on 60 Å or 120 Å silica, with the HS variant on 60 Å and the MU and SD variants on 120 Å.
For small-molecule work on a short alkyl phase the 60 Å HS packing is the usual starting point, while protein and peptide methods generally favour the 120 Å variants. Match the variant code to your method, then choose 3 µm for resolution or 5 µm for routine throughput. Ask for a quotation on any configuration.
